Welcome
to 'Safety Sense', an innovative on-line workplace health
and safety program for secondary students in years 10,
11 and 12.
The
Department of Industrial Relation's Workplace Health
and Safety has developed Safety Sense to give you the
chance to explore workplace health and safety on the
net.
Considering
25% percent of all work-related injuries in Queensland
are in the 15 to 24 age group, safety makes sense.
The
program has valuable messages that could make a difference
to your future.
An
understanding of basic workplace health and safety issues
means you can protect yourself against workplace hazards.
The program is packed with valuable health and safety
information designed to help you work safely.

Safety
Sense - the education program that makes sense of safety
Safety
Sense is a self-paced education program developed to
broaden your knowledge of workplace health and safety.
A range of issues are covered in this package, from
farm safety and hazardous substances to machine guarding
and noise.
To
work through the information, scroll down the screen
and select the items of interest.
Study
the various workplace health and safety areas outlined
in the program.
To
continue onto another section, just click the relevant
underlined text.
Once
you have studied all the sections, you can test your
knowledge with a few multiple choice (True / False)
questions.
After
successfully completing the questions, you become a
graduate of the Safety Sense Program and receive a Workplace
Health and Safety Certificate issued by the Department
of Industrial Relations.
There
are 10 industry specific packages within the Safety
Sense series, including health and safety in:
- Building
and Construction;
- Community
Services;
- Electrical
and Electronics;
- Hairdressing;
- Hospitality
and Tourism;
- Manufacturing;
- Metals
and Engineering;
- Office
and Business;
- Primary
Industry / Natural Resources; and
- Retail.
What
you should complete
Year
10 Students
Year
10 students only need to complete the first, General
component and certificate of the Safety
Sense Package. The rest of the package is optional.
Year
11 and 12 Students
Year
11 and 12 students need to complete the first, General
component and certificate of
the Safety Sense Package and should also work through
industry specific components
relating
to their work placement or work experience.
The
Safety Sense Program caters for all year 10, 11 and
12 students who undertake work placement and work experience
while at school.
Please
be aware that the Questionaire and Certificate Issuing
sections of this Program run best on Netscape 3.0, Exployer
