Heat 

In the kitchen, you can be burned or scalded when you are: 

  • cooking food;
  • removing food from cooktops, ovens, deep fryers, grillers, etc; and
  • making hot drinks using steam or equipment such as urns and espresso machines.
Things you can do to mimimise the risk. 
  • Wear an apron to protect your body.
  • Use automatic food lowering devices if they are provided. 
  • Make sure all equipment that contains hot fat is covered when not in use.
  • Ask your employer to install a gravity feed chute so you don't have to handle hot waste and  cooking oil
